We aim to provide reasonably priced puppy and dog training classes that are available to all. We treat our clients with respect and support them through training and behavioural modification progress
Last year in 2007 more than 100,000 dogs were re-homed and many thousands needlessly destroyed. The majority of dogs which get taken in to rescue centres have training and/or behaviour problems. The worst cases of behaviour problem are turned away by rescue centres leaving owners with limited options. Many dogs are euthenased and many are simply abandoned. It is Paws In Hand's aim that we provide families with serious options on preventing and/or managing their dog behaviour problems. Firstly we provide extremely reasonably priced small training classes. Most other puppy classes are charged at anything from about £60.00 to £85.00 for a six week course and there may be many puppies on the course. Paws In Hand charges just £45.00 and has a maximum of 6/7 puppies on a course. We offer training at these prices simply because puppy training is essential and it should be affordable for all not just the well off. More dogs die through lack of socialisation and training than any other single cause! If you think about how much it costs to buy a dog, a small cost to train a puppy so you can keep him/her for life really is worth it. We also offer follow on classes at the same prices as there is plenty of evidence to support the benefits of ongoing training in dogs for at least a year. By this time with consistent training you will have a pretty well behaved clever dog. Please see the following Ian Dunbar quotation. " A spoonful of prevention is worth truckloads of cure" James O'Heare (The Canine Aggression Workbook 2nd Edition) goes on to say " No-one likes deadlines but your puppy has a brief window of opportunity during early puppyhood in which he must be exposed in a sensitive and positive way to the world so that he will grow up happy and well adjusted. Without proper socialisation your dog will be at risk of various behaviour problems including aggression. Many serious and difficult to modify behaviours can be traced back to improper or inadequate socialisation". He goes onto say "Socialisation must be maintained, especially in the first year". This doesn't mean you have to go to classes every week for the first year, only that periodic attendance to good qaulity classes with focus on socialisation is highly recommended.
Our dog behaviour counselling service is truly committed to helping you to resolve your dog behaviour problem. We never apportion blame. There are many causes of dog behaviour problems and we take a hollistic view and find many other reasons for bad behaviour. In fact many people I see have taken on rescue dogs and the last thing they need is to be told it's all their fault when the problem was there before they took on their dog! Even a well trained dog can develop behaviour problems in their life time. All of us at Paws In Hand have come to this world because we have experienced problems with our own dogs. Therefore, you can be assured of our understanding and total support in helping you to resolve the problem behaviour. This is why our consultations come with three months inclusive telephone or e mail follow up to ensure you are not left on your own after a consultation or forced to take out another consultation to continue to make progress. Our behaviour consultations when compared like for like are the most competitive that we have found.
We offer excellent standards of training in small classes run by approachable and understanding people. We offer a range of training options from indoors to outdoors designed to meet the needs of all dog owners from those who wish to raise a well behaved social dog to those who have more specific needs such as aggressive dog rehabilitation, gentle socialisation for those dogs uncomfortable around other dogs, to practical outdoor recall training. We are always open to suggestions if there is a service you are looking for we will aim to acommodate youir requests.
