You should know that dog sitters should be licenced with the local authority. It is very important that you only use parties which are registered as these will have been scrutinized by the local animal welfare officer to have been given a licence. There are many dog sitters who have no qualifications or insurance to do so. Perhaps you think that you don't need qualifications? Well, in fact I will not leave my dog with soneone who has not shown that they are accepted by the local authority. Dog sitting is the same as child minding and even more complex since dogs can cause an awful lot of damage to each other with ther teeth. Well, I guess kids can too......... you can imagine what a little horror I was as a kid! Ask my sister!

Here is a list of licenced sitters in the east Dorset area. If you are not in east Dorset check with your local authority to make sure someone is in fact licenced. Please be aware that franchised pet sitters are not licenced as such, the individuals they refer you to should be licenced by the council. You will need to check the person out with your local authority.

As at May 2012 these people are licenced in East Dorset;
